Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Lab Assistant will be responsible for the organization, cleanliness, and equipment distribution for the Natural Science lab rooms on the Milledgeville campus. They will also maintain the lab rooms, and prep-rooms, and animals found in the lab. They will make available open lab times to allow students to complete more complex lab work. Further, the lab assistant will provide help to the faculty in setting up, and breaking down, the weekly lab activities. They may work with, and supervise, a federal work-study student.
MAJOR DUTIES:
* -Aid in set up and tearing down of laboratory materials. Keeping a running inventory of supplies on hand and those needed.
* --Maintain flexible 20 hours per week of open lab supervision for students to work in the laboratory other than during assigned class times.
* --Supervise and evaluate the performance of work-study students.
* --Maintain hazardous material data and chemical inventory.
* --Autoclave old microbiology cultures.
* --Maintaining the cleanliness of the lab and prep-room area.
* --Plumb, clean, and maintain the department's aquarium's.
* --Maintain and supervise care and use of models, skeletons, and other resources of the division.
* --Oversee and coordinate the care and maintenance of animals, plants and other division collections.
* --Pilot new labs for possible inclusion in the lab activity updates in the various courses.
* --Coordinate the division supply purchasing by keeping a supply inventory list for the labs and creating a purchasing list for lab supplies for the department chair.
* --Aid the Dept. Chair in the collection and calculation of program and class assessment data.
* Criminal background check and Drug Screen must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.

Qualifications
This position requires that the applicant be working towards, or graduated with a Bachelor's degree in natural science.
* -Requires working knowledge of laboratory prep work and/or EPA and OSHA guidelines for schools. The applicant must have a complete understanding of the policies of GMC Milledgeville Laboratory operations.
* -Requires demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse and unique personalities.
* -Requires the ability to work with GMC data sources to facilitate the evaluation of academic programs and the ordering of supplies.
