JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the daily operations of the Family Medicine laboratory services. This role includes performing venipunctures and finger sticks for patients of all ages, processing medical laboratory tests, and documenting results for the diagnosis and prevention of disease while adhering to the regulatory requirements of CLIA. Additionally this position will serve as a lab staff supervisor, lead phlebotomy trainer, coordinate phlebotomy schedules, and review all labs throughout the day to ensure compliance and accuracy.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Performing controls on CLIA waive lab tests and monitoring the logs for accuracy and completion
* Creates and maintains phlebotomy schedules and assignments
* Cleaning and stocking and supply ordering for specimen collection areas
* Monitoring lab schedule for appointment arrivals and escorting patients to the lab, ensuring timely appointments and excellent patient experience
* Review all incoming lab orders from providers for completion and accuracy
* Ensuring all laboratory staff follow specimen processing instructions for accuracy
* Requisitioning and processing samples, including centrifuging and any special processing instructions
* Ensure all samples are prepared accurately for pick-up from reference lab(s)
* Review daily logs of all completed point of care results per standard operating procedure
* Escalating abnormal and critical results per policy
* Practice infection prevention control standards at all times
* Monitor and respond to EHR messaging, and voicemails timely
* Serve as preceptor for phlebotomy students or clinical staff
* Serves as a trainer for POCT testing and phlebotomy
* Actively embraces and supports divisional and organizational initiatives
* Serves as a back-up for clinical team members as needed

SPECIFIED SKILLS
* COMPUTER
* Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.
* Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record.
* FOREIGN LANGUAGE
* Spanish speaking skills preferred.
* LABORATORY
* Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, and tests
* Knowledge of medical laboratory safety and infections control policies
* Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Graduate from an accredited phlebotomist program
* Five years of phlebotomy experience in an ambulatory setting with patients of all ages.

REQUIRED LICENSES:
* High school diploma
* Current CPR certification
* CNA, CMA, or Phlebotomy certificate
SCHEDULE:
Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
