Salary InformationCompensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \nA starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment withpay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations \nNature of WorkThe fundamental reason this\nclassification exists is to supervise work crews engaged in manual and\nsemi-skilled labor performing a variety of Landfill maintenance tasks in the\nCity of Montgomery. The major work\nduties include planning for an assignment, directing activities on a work site,\ndocumenting project activities, and supervising a work crew. Incumbents work under general direction and\nare generally in charge of the crew, plan and carry out assignments with\nconsiderable independence, and have some latitude in developing procedures and\nmethods. Assignments are received at the\nbeginning of the shift and the foreman typically prioritizes the\nassignments. Supervisors are contacted\nfor guidance in cases of unexpected occurrences or unanticipated\nsituations. Errors made during the\nperformance of tasks can result in safety hazards to the general public and the\nwork crew. Labor Foremen II are distinguished from Labor Foremen I by the level\nof skill possessed by their subordinates.\nFor example, Foremen II typically supervise employees in classifications\nsuch as Equipment Operator, Heavy Equipment Operator and Labor Foreman I. Labor Foremen I typically supervise Service\nMaintenance Workers.\nMinimum QualificationsTwo (2) years of experience as a lead\nworker on a utility, construction or maintenance crew.\nNote: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\n\n\nSpecial RequirementsThis position requires possession\nof an Alabama Commercial Driver's License Class B license needed to drive and\noperate city vehicles and equipment.\n\n\nPHYSICAL ABILITIES: \n\n\nPhysical ability to lift and move\nobjects up to 50-70 pounds as needed to move materials at work sites. Physical\nability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend repeatedly for extended periods of\ntime as needed to complete various work tasks.\n\n\nWORKING CONDITIONS:\n\n\n\nThe majority of the jobs require\nworking outside which includes traveling over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces\nand working in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the\nelements. All jobs require the movement\nof objects weighing from 50-70 pounds with assistance; bending or stooping\nrepeatedly over time; and working with cleaning fluids, chemicals, pesticides,\ninsecticides, paints, cleaning agents, or similar solutions. May work some weekends during peak seasons or\nprior to and after special city events.\nMay work 6 days a week, manage and supervise up to 5 inmates to ensure\nprojects are completed in a timely manner.\n\n\nKind of ExaminationApplications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.
