PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Labor Relations Specialist is a Labor Team member responsible for addressing labor issues which arise within a unionized workforce under collective bargaining agreements and for facilitating the management-union relationship through communications with management and union representatives. Labor Relations Specialist collaborates with HR, Employee Relations team to support and advise management on employee relations and work environment issues.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides labor support to the Labor, Employment Senior Legal Counsel and to members of the Labor Relations team Assists management with labor issues, including the interpretation and application of the terms of union collective bargaining agreementsCollaborates with HR, Employee Relations team to support and advise management on identifying and addressing work issues with unionized employee Facilitates the management-union relationship through communications with union representatives, participation at meetings, and information for submission of reportsAssists with management's department staff reorganizations under contractual process Advises on the elements of the labor just cause standard in decisions of corrective action/disciplineParticipates in union grievance process, including fact-finding, assessment, drafting responses, tracking subject matter and causation Drafts responses to union written requests for information Assists Labor Team with witnesses and documents in preparation for labor arbitrationsParticipates in all labor tasks of the collective bargaining process, including bargaining preparation, sessions, Minutes, and electronic file maintenance Develops a collaborative and positive working relationship within Human Resources, and with management across all disciplinesAssists with the development and delivery of labor education for management Promotes a constructive labor-management relationship with union representativesOversees for the Labor Team the input of information into Labor File Shares and LaborSoft data basesPerform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.Challenges current working practices identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management. Engages and commits to the organization's culture of continuous improvement by actively participating, supporting, and promoting CCHC Pillars of Excellence.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
- Minimum of Associate Degree in Industrial Labor Relations, Human Resources, or related field
- One year Labor Relations experience, or a Bachelor or Master level degree in related field
- (Preferred) Knowledge of Labor Relations principles of a unionized workforce and collective bargaining agreements
- Knowledge of Human Resources principles, employment policies and regulations, and conflict resolution practices
- Strong writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to identify issues, assess, facilitate discussion and action plan, and make recommendations
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate as a team member fostering a cooperative working environment
- Ability to work concurrently on multiple initiatives and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to produce quality work in an efficient manner
- Ability to perform duties with discretion and maintain confidentiality, as appropriate
- Demonstrate professional demeanor in all communications and interactions
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
