Job Description :
The Illinois State Geological Survey is seeking to hire an individual to assist in the laboratory analysis of geologic samples and participate in sample and data archiving activities. Work up to 40 hours per week at $20.00 to $25.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Position is based in Champaign, Illinois.Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare samples for analysis as needed.Operate mass spectrometers and associated peripherals.Calibrate analytical results to reference materials.Ensure laboratory safety and maintain analytical equipment.Engage in data archiving activities.Assist with sample transport and storage.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree with coursework in geology or related discipline and familiarity with geochemical analysis.Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment under minimal supervision with a commitment to maintaining a well-organized, clean, and productive lab.Strong organizational skills and ability to manage large data sets.Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures and safety protocols.Effective communication, personal relations, and collaboration skills.Experience with commonly employed software, databases, and project management tools (e.g., Excel, Access, ArcGIS).Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in geology or related discipline with stable isotope laboratory experience.Application Process:Position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.
