ECU Health North Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited, 204-bed acute bed facility serving Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties in the north-central region of North Carolina. Its service area also reaches into southern Virginia. With more than 600 team members, the hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical services. It features a 24-hour emergency department and offers advanced diagnostics as well as specialty and primary care.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests.
As a Laboratory Assistant, you will
* Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis
* Process specimens for analysis and reference testing
* With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing
* May perform chain-of-custody drug collections
* Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned
* Maintains required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies
* Performs duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements
* Supports the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities
Minimum Requirements
* High School, Equivalent (GED), or higher
* Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended
Preferred
* 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting
Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency:
* National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb)
* American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)]
* International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS)
* National Phlebotomy Association (NPA)
* American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)
* National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE)
* National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS)
* American Medical Technologists (AMT)
* Or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership
Other Information
* This is a PRN, As Needed position
* Required to work 2 (10 hour) shifts per week and other shifts, as needed for coverage
* Required to work rotational weekends
