The Laboratory Assistant I collects and processes clinical blood, non-blood specimens in the lab and exam rooms; dispense collection instructions to patients, utilize computer systems for data storage/retrieval/faxing; maintain work area including records, supplies, equipment, and safety; follow procedures, policies, and Medicare compliance regulations; performs other duties as assigned..

Primary Responsibilities:

* Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards Handbook. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within

* Perform adult and pediatric venous and capillary blood draws. Prepare and explain patient self-collection kits

* Registering and checking in laboratory patients. Scan, file, and disperse paperwork and faxes. Answering incoming calls from patients and clinical staff

* Proficient in researching test requirements, documenting testing information, and retrieving missing orders. Ordering tests from requisitions sent by providers outside of TCC and ensuring all orders from the EMR interface properly with the LIS

* Process incoming specimens including but not limited to: aliquot serum or plasma, receiving and ordering tests, dispensing specimen to proper departments, etc. Receive and document patient specimen collection kit drop offs

* Maintain work area including records, supplies, equipment and safety

* Follow procedures, policies, Medicare compliance regulations. (ABN)

Required Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire

* Experience in a health care or customer service setting

* Proven computer skills

* Previous experience or Training in an approved phlebotomy training program

Preferred Qualifications:

* 1+ years Phlebotomy experience

Physical Demands:

* Physical guidelines include ability to use a computer, stand/sit for up to twelve hours/day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in turning, assist patients in arising from seats in waiting areas, push wheelchair patients, assist patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or exam table; turn a minimum of 50 pounds unaided and over 100 pounds with assistance.
