Job Location : Dallas,TX, USA
Serves as the primary database administrator and support liaison for the Laboratory Information System (LIS) used in the testing and business operations of the Clinical, Environmental, and Bioterrorism Laboratory programs. Administers all technical aspects of the laboratory information system with the Public Health Laboratory by providing specialized technical expertise, project management and coordination for HHS Informatics Program activities for the benefit of HHS, staff and partner organizations.
Manages the daily administration of the laboratory information system by providing first line user support and serving as a technical expert in software and hardware applications.
Troubleshoots the laboratory information system, workstations, internet software or web based cloud information to ensure results are not delayed and submitted in a timely fashion.
Acts as the primary contact for the data management process between laboratory personnel, vendors, IT professionals, and applicable stakeholders for the department.
Acts as a consultant regarding laboratory data standards, procedures and services using APHLcore competencies.
Plans and coordinates quality improvement efforts in conjunction with QA/QC coordinator through audits and various other methods.
Assists personnel in managing all security standards to ensure the department is compliant with all federal and state laws and with appropriate accreditation agencies.
Responsible for building successful relationships with the LIS software supplier for advanced troubleshooting methods.
Works with various vendors to develop, establish, and troubleshoot appropriated instrument interfaces.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, engineering or related field of study. Three (3) years of professional work related experience in an IT field with a specialization in IT integration or system designing.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Requires knowledge of laboratory practices and laboratory information systems. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with technical specialists and management utilizing professional judgment to make valid decisions on laboratory information systems and laboratory practices. Proven experience in working with HL7 messaging standards. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Standard office environment. Ability to travel to various work site locations.
