Laboratory Technician (Asbestos) Location Long Island City, NY Job Code 24-173-03L # of openings 1 EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Asbestos) in Long Island City, NY. The technician supports the laboratory analysts by preparing samples for analysis. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Preparation of environmental samples prior to analysis for Bulk Sample Gravimetric Prep, TEM Microvac and Wipe Prep, TEM Water Prep and any areas of prep related to client work Other laboratory duties such as sample archiving and disposition, and TEM grid preparation Perform standard and non-standard laboratory prep procedures according to internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Must have good laboratory practices Assist with laboratory organization, supply inventory, calibrations, and cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment Assist with light cleaning of laboratory when needed Other laboratory duties as deemed appropriate to assist in the overall functioning of the lab may be assigned by lab staff and management as needed Requirements: High School degree/equivalent or Associates Degree in Life Science or 2 years of college course work completed One to two years' of previous academic or commercial lab experience a plus Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform subsampling procedure Must be able to work independently and with a team Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignment Must have good communication, computer, typing, and organizational skills Available Shift: Tuesday to Saturday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Training schedule to start will be Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EMSL offers full time benefits: medical, dental, 401(k), voluntary benefits, paid time off, holiday pay and a flexible spending account.
