POSITION TITLE: Laborer - Grounds EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt REPORTS TO: Welder Foreman TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months Primary Purpose Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems. Assist with grounds maintenance. QualificationsEducation/Certification High school diploma or GED, preferred Valid Texas driver's license Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures Ability to communicate effectively Ability to operate hand and power tools Ability to work independently Experience One year experience in general building maintenance; clear driving record Major ResponsibilitiesMaintenance and Repair
- Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance, including woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing glass.
- Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds, and perform maintenance repairs.
- Detect and report major repairs on structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
- Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by supervisor.
- Assist with mowing and detailing of grounds.
- Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, cabinetry, chairs, and file cabinets.
- Move, install, assemble, and repair all furniture and playground equipment as needed.
- Hang pictures, mirrors, chalkboards, marker boards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items..
- Install ceiling and flooring materials.
- Operate light truck to transport furniture, equipment, supplies and materials.
- Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
- Work irregular hours and respond to emergency calls as needed.

- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor.
