Once assignments have been learned, they may be performed with only general supervision. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an entry level and single class position. Work assignments are routine and repetitive in nature. This position provides support with manual labor tasks to assist in the work of Maintenance Workers, Operators, and/or Leads in the maintenance of the City's infrastructure. QualificationsApplicants must possess the following minimum qualifications to continue in the recruitment process:Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent Licenses and Certificates: Must possess within thirty (30) days of hire and maintain throughout employment, the equivalent to a valid Nevada Class C driver's license. Must possess within six (6) months of hire and maintain throughout employment, a valid Flagging Certification. Must possess within six (6) months of hire and maintain throughout employment, a valid forklift certification. Examples of Essential Duties Safely, perform general manual labor tasks to assist in the work of Maintenance Workers, Operators, and/or Leads in the maintenance of the City's infrastructure including but not limited to various manual tasks in support of drainage, sewer and/or water pipeline installation and maintenance; as well as provide support and assistance with installation, repair and maintenance of regulatory, historic and informational signs throughout the City. Dig trenches and similar excavations, refill excavations, spread and level to grade dirt, gravel and other materials. Set and repair curbing, broken patches or eroded pavement. Methods used can include surface breaking, mixing and applying necessary paving materials to maintain roadways and sidewalks in a safe condition. Assist in erecting and dismantling wall partitions, furniture and equipment. Sweep, collect, remove and clear rubbish from clogged catch basins and sewer lines. Load and unload trucks. Unpack and store supplies and equipment in appropriate areas. Take periodic inventory of supplies and equipment. Set attachments such as mowers, plow blades, leaf catcher buckets and vacuum cleaners to necessary City vehicles in order to perform grass cutting, roadway cleaning, snow removal and other maintenance tasks. Required to drive City vehicle to and from work site locations. Daily or periodic use of a variety of small hand and hand-held power tools, shovels, snow removal and ice control equipment. Prepare accurate records and reports of daily work performed including but not limited to hours, materials, and equipment used. Must shovel snow, spread salt and sand as well as scrape and break ice during inclement weather in order to provide safe roadways and sidewalks for motorists and pedestrians. Respond to emergency calls in off-hours as required and respond to emergencies when assigned. Mentor and train others in work knowledge, procedures, skills, and abilities. Physical Demands: Work environment is composed of daily exposure to unpleasant, potentially hazardous substances and hazardous materials. Requires enough communication, strength, vision, hearing, manual dexterity and stamina to perform continuous and heavy physical labor. Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to ninety (90) pounds.
