Laborer Department: DPW - Forestry Employment Status: UFCW Laborers, Non-Exempt, Full-Time (40 Hours) Salary: Grade 4L, Step 5, \$17.70/Hour Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:00AM-3:30PM Certifications/Licenses Required: MA Class D Driver\'s License, Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP) Certification, and First Aid/CPR certification (must be obtained within 6 months). SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s Department of Public Works / Forestry Department is hiring a Laborer entry-level position to assist with all Forestry Department operations under the supervision of the City Arborist. Types of work include but are not limited to operating chainsaws and blowers, chipping brush, using hand tools such as rakes and shovels, handling ropes for tree rigging, stump grinding, and performing upkeep on said equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: Participates in the removal and pruning of trees. Participates in maintaining city tree nursery. Participates in the planting, transplanting, and establishment of trees, bushes, and shrubs. Participates in the safe and proficient operation of all Forestry Department equipment and techniques. Participates in the maintenance and repairs of all Forestry Department equipment. Participates in the performance of aerial work for other city departments such as holiday light installation and aerial inspections of public facilities. Participates in all facets of snow operations. Must be available for overtime. Adheres to industry safety standards for employees and the public in regards to the Forestry Department operations. QUALIFICATIONS Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP) Certification and First Aid/CPR certification must be obtained within 6 months (Training for this will be provided by the City.) Massachusetts Class D Driver\'s license. Minimum 1 years\' experience in municipal public work\'s operation or similar type of labor work. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
