Knox Concrete Construction Laborer GENERAL LABOR-CONCRETE. Work weeks is Monday thru Friday, fulltime status, with overtime pay. Weekend work is occasionally required, start time varies, may be as early as 6am. This position is entitled to benefits upon completion of 90 day probationary period. Duties include but are not limited to the following: • Operating safely at all times, including reviewing potential traffic hazards and directing traffic around the job site • Assist with mixing of concrete, transporting materials to the job site, running for tools • Safeguard company assets including tools, materials and equipment from left and misuse • Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement. • Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers; and mix, pour, and spread concrete. • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials. • Tend machines that pump concrete, grout, cement, sand or gravel for application. • Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment. • Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools. • Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns. • Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts. • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones. • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes. • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures. • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete using abrasive tools or machines. • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications. • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed. • Provide assistance to craft workers, such as finishers, crew leaders, foreman and superintendent. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS • Minimum 1 years construction site experience • Able to be certified in first aid • Able to be achieve OSHA 10 Card • Effective written and oral communication skills • Strong attention to detail • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment • Strong work ethic • Familiarity and experience using common tools such as hammers, saws, pliers, and screwdrivers, as well as, more sophisticated tools such as jackhammer's, cut off saws, impact wrenches, drills, circular saws, etc. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to work in extreme conditions -- temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. • Ability to bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day ADDITIONAL CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED • Dependability -- one of the most important skills - in many cases, work cannot start until you get there, if you don't show up, the company may have to lose a day of work until they can replace you; your co-workers could also lose pay. • Attention to detail is a critical skill for a laborer - most of the time, no one will be watching over your shoulder, and they depend on you to perform the task correctly, and notify someone instantly if there are any problems. • Cooperation - this is a much-needed skill, you will be working with other people, and arguments and hostility slow a job down.
