Salary: $12.60 HourlyLocation : Tyler, TXJob Type: Regular Full-timeJob Number: 994968Department: Parks and RecreationOpening Date: 12/26/2024Purpose Of PositionThis position provides labor assistance to the Urban Forestry/Medians crew, Assistance is provided by picking up litter, cleaning equipment, using power equipment, push mowers, using various other hand and power tools to accomplish tasks along with planting and preparing landscape beds. Essential Functions
- Pick up litter.
- Use hand-held blower.
- Use spin trimmer.
- Ability to operate zero turn and push mowers.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance on equipment.
- Knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of hand tools and power equipment.
- Drive pick-up truck.
- Knowledge of departmental regulations pertaining to tasks.
- Planting of horticultural materials.
- Must be able to conduct landscape duties.
- Clean areas after work is accomplished.
- Ability to identify problems in a landscape setting.
- Must be able to communicate with owners, employees and management in person, using telephone or radio.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
- Must be able to stand and walk up to 8 hours daily; walk up to 6 hours daily; lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80 lbs.: climb trees; stoop, bend, and crouch up to 8 hours daily: reach up to 8 hours daily: handle materials and tools.
- Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (summer and winter).
- Must be able to work in and around city owned medians.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. One (1) year of experience in a horticultural or nursery related field is preferred, as well as operating chainsaws and hedge clippers.
