We are currently recruiting to fill vacancies for part-time* LABORERS in the Utilities & Public Works Departments.

Laborers assigned to the Utilities Department will be assigned tasks within the Field Utilities section.

Laborers assigned to the Public Works Department perform maintenance work in the Maintenance Division which includes: Parks, Streets, Facilities, Garage maintenance, and Central Warehouse.

All positions require candidates to be able to work with others, as well as independently, on assigned tasks and to be flexible in performing multiple tasks throughout the day. Sample job duties include, but are not limited to:

* Manual tasks such as loading and unloading materials and equipment, digging and covering holes and trenches

* Maintaining and repairing sewer and water lines, streets, and storm drains

* Operating weed-eaters, lawnmowers, and other power tools

* Assisting skilled workers in general maintenance operations

* Cleaning and servicing equipment

* Cleaning buildings and parks

* Performing warehouse and courier duties making daily deliveries to City facilities

Salary Information: $20.57-$25.00/hour

* Laborer is a part-time position and paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits, and do not accrue leave time with the exception of state-mandated sick leave (40 hours per year). Promotional opportunities for full-time positions will take place as a separate recruitment.

ABOUT YOU

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is highly desirable.

Experience: Experience in landscape or construction maintenance is highly desirable.

License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

Other: Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire in order to drive a vehicle for City business and operate power tools.
