Salary: $15.50 Hourly Location : Beaumont, TX Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 5549 Department: Public Works Department Division: Streets & Drainage Opening Date: 11/21/2024 Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions: Performs skilled manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of ditches, concrete and/or asphalt streets, walkways, curbs, gutters, catch basins, surface inlets, storm sewers; patches streets; breaks concrete, finishes concrete; operates such operates such equipment as jackhammer, air compressor, concrete saw, cement mixer, chain saw, gas detector and 2-yard dump trucks; utilize hand tools such as a maul, rotary hammer, tamps, shovels, hammer, chains, lute, level broom, rakes, and tape measures; inspect storm manholes and pipes inside of storm boxes; checks complaints made by citizens; replenishes supplies; light vehicle maintenance; cleans tools; washes vehicles. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. work shifts determined by crew assignment); overtime when necessary. Must be available to work extended hours as needed; work schedules subject to change when necessary. Subject to 24 hour call out. This position is considered essential during emergency situations. Minimum Essential QualificationsKnowledge: General knowledge of manual tasks required for area of work assignment including knowledge of asphalt raking, concrete finishing, techniques and knowledge of setting grades; knowledge of safety procedures. Skills/Abilities: Considerable skill in the use and operation of hand and power tools such as concrete saws, chain saws, shovels, picks, jack hammers and rakes as well as other equipment applicable to assignments; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and during unfavorable weather conditions; ability to read and write and follow oral and written instructions; ability to interpret maps and sketches; ability to operate laser; ability to repair concrete and rake asphalt; ability to make simple mathematical calculations; ability to make decisions and plan job tasks. Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., drags, pulls, pushes, lifts objects weighing up to 100 lbs., squats, stands, stoops, kneels, twists body, walks, climbs, drives vehicle and writes by hand; infrequently cleans, crawls and sits. Education/Experience: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Minimum one (1) year experience performing tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of concrete streets, concrete drainage and related facilities, including grade elevations and concrete finishing. Other Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
