Position Summary This position will provide general labor duties to include vegetation removal, irrigation structure repair, concrete/masonry work, ditch clearing and cleaning, fence repair, application of herbicide or other pest control mechanisms, or other as needed on a project-by-project basis as determined by the Water Resources Field Supervisor . Supervision Exercised Supervised by the Field Supervisor - Water Resources. Major Duties and Responsibilities May perform any or all of the following tasks:
Follows the direction of the Water Resources Field Supervisor or other Water Resources Staff as directed by the Water Resource Manager. Assists Water Resources Staff to define project scopes, including materials, labor, and timelines. Operates, maintains, and repairs associated power tools and equipment, including, but not limited to, mowers, trimmers, chipper, chainsaws and sprayers. (Prior to operating chainsaw, must complete safety training and Class A Chainsaw Operating Class). Mixes and manually sprays herbicide compounds. Properly manages equipment needed for projects, to include proper care, maintenance, and securing equipment to designated locations at the end of each work day. Reports challenges, concerns, and questions to Water Resources Field Supervisor or other Water Resources Staff as directed by the Water Resource Manager. Ability to follow the direction of a task lead. Ability to operate and maintain small tools and equipment. Knowledge of herbicidal compounds and potential effects when mixed or used. Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, procedures, and reporting requirements. Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities will be defined on a project-by-project basis. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience Required:
High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent. Six (6) months experience in performing general labor duties. Certifications dependent on equipment operated. Preferred: 1. Masonry experience. Licensing Status
Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening. Working Conditions
Duties are performed outdoors and subject to seasonal extremes and inclement weather. Work will be associated with high noise levels emanating from power equipment. Subject to hazards such as infections, diseases, fumes, odors, dusts, and gasses. Subject to hazards such as heights, motorized equipment, and hand tools. Duties will involve work on even, uneven, rocky, flat, sloped, and/or hard surfaces. Duties will involve walking, standing, crouching, and kneeling. Specific requirements include the following: (80lbs. Maximum) - Trunk-bend, rotate, push, pull, carry
- Arms-reach, carry, push, pull, lift, twist, and rotate
- Legs-lift, push, pull, lift, twist, rotate, and balance
- Hands-grasp, manipulate, rapid movement, bilateral coordination, eye and hand coordination.
