Job Details Our Per Diem Lactation Consultant (RN) will: * Provide lactation management services and support to expectant and new parents.* Partner with an interdisciplinary team including, but not limited to, the Director of Maternal-Child Nursing, attending physicians, Registered Nurses (RNs), and ancillary staff to facilitate and manage a variety of lactation/maternity patient education programs and development of future programs.* Collaborate with staff RNs to achieve maximum breastfeeding outcomes.* Identify expected breastfeeding outcomes, which are measurable, realistic and attainable in relation to resources available.* Teach prenatal breastfeeding classes to expectant parents and participate in community outreach classes.* Provide evidence-based education to maternity staff to reinforce and update knowledge and skill regarding the lactation process.* Adhere to Baby-Friendly, USA, NYSDOH and IBCLC breastfeeding best practices and assure that they are implemented by all staff.* Facilitate breastfeeding support group for breastfeeding women in the community.* Participate in meetings of the Association of Lactation Providers of Suffolk and Nassau counties.* Perform performance improvement activities related to breastfeeding indicators including analysis of data and implementing/evaluating process improvement programs* Act as a support person for the nursing staff, patients, and families of the L&D, NICU and Maternity Units.* Advocate for and builds meaningful relationships with patients and their loved ones through safety intervention, emotional support, and education.* Review, revise, and develop maternal-child department policies and procedures relating to the breastfeeding program. What you'll bring: * Passion for Maternal- Child Health Nursing and Lactation Education* 3-5+ Years of experience working in Maternal-Child Health Nursing* 5+ Years of experience in lactation consulting required* Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or related field preferred* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred * Licensure: New York Registered Nurse (RN) License & Registration strongly preferred* Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) & International Board Certified Lactation Certification (IBCLC) required Salary Range USD $55.00 - USD $68.00 /Hr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
