Job DetailsJob LocationOmak - , WASalary Range$20.00 - $20.00 HourlyDescriptionCLOSING DATE: Open Until FilledPOSITION: Language Intern/Cultural SpecialistSALARY: 20.00 per hourREPORTS TO: PSIS PrincipalLOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School, Omak, WABasic Functions: Incumbent in collaboration with school staff and certified Lead Salish Language Teacher provides support for enhancement of Tribal Culture and the Salish language into all areas of the school, encouraging students positive values, self-esteem, respect, and success. Student's experiences in the home and community are appreciated at the school and reflected in the curriculum and school calendar. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Training:
  • Requires certification as Teacher of Indian History OR must be uncertified Tribal Member or Native American with good understanding of local culture and the Salish Language.
  • Requires a valid Washington State Driver's license and must be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
  • Requires First Aid/CPR certification with in 30 days of employment and must maintain throughout employment.
  • Requires submission of all certifications, transcripts/proof of degree, and THREE written letters of recommendation upon applying.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires knowledge of and ability to speak the Salish language.
  • Requires ability to exhibit responsibility in maintaining the learning environment in the classroom on a daily basis, and must possess flexibility in classrooms.
  • Requires ability to demonstrate sound mental and physical health.
  • Requires ability to exhibit good moral character.
  • Requires ability to maintian strict confidentiality at all times and must sign PSIS Oath of Confidentiality form.
  • Requires ability to incorparate Salish language into the curriculum by identifying and providing resources necessary for teacher to achieve instructional objectives.
  • Requires ability to serve as the resources person to train staff in how to integrate culture into the curriculum.
  • Requires ability to make students aware of the accomplishments of Native Americans including those with disabilities.
  • Requires the ability to make school staff aware of and respectful of Tribal culture and values on all areas of planning and programming.
  • Requires ability to insure that Tribal Culture is presented in a way that teaches respect for all people.
  • Requires the ability to provide input for community members and students in the design of cultural instruction.
  • Requires the ability to involve Tribal elders and other community members in classroom discussions of Tribal history.
  • Requires ability to conduct events and activities that support and reflect Tribal values.
  • Requires the ability to serve as a resource to the Residential Program, after school program. and summer school program to enhance student activities.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
