The Riverside County Sheriff's Office seeks to fill three Laundry Worker positions for the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. Incumbents of this classification will be required to stand for long periods of time and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. in the process of performing the duties of assisting, supervising, and training incarcerated workers in collecting, sorting, weighing, and counting the laundry from all facilities within the Corrections Division. Operating industrial machinery and troubleshooting mechanical faults during operation.Competitive Candidates will have Commercial Laundry experience, basic computer skills, record-keeping, and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues. Work schedule: 4/10-day shift - 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM and must be available to work holidays. The Sheriff's Office is dedicated to serving the citizens of its communities with integrity, professionalism, leadership, and loyalty and believes in service above self.* Participates in the formulation of departmental policies as they affect the laundry service, operations, including transporting laundry to and from correctional facilities.* In the absence of a supervisor, schedules and coordinates the pick-up and delivery of the laundry to provide the necessary level of service to each facility and to comply with state laws and court orders.* Identifies mechanical problems and arranges for maintenance.* Tracks the condition and durability of clothing, linen, and blankets, determines when an item is no longer usable, and recommends on the quality of goods purchased.* Trains corrections personnel and incarcerated workers in the use of laundry equipment and procedures such as washing, drying, mending, folding, packaging, and delivering each facility's laundry including safe working procedures.* Requisitions supplies, equipment, and materials needed to operate the laundry.* Supervises clean-up of the work area and maintains linen storage areas.* Classify laundry articles by type of fabric and color, select method and manner of cleaning soiled items, select, and apply the correct washing formula, or chemical solution, and supervise the loading, unloading, and operation of washroom equipment.* The employee reports behavior or work performance problems of incarcerated persons to correctional staff for appropriate action.* Following safe material handling practices and replacing cleaning supplies, soaps, solvents, and disinfectants for industrial laundry equipment.Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; follow oral and written directions; learn machine operations, procedures, and techniques of laundry work; keep simple records.* Basic mathematical calculations, e.g., addition, subtraction, and multiplication.* Knowledge of basic computer applications and hardware.Skills in reading, writing emails, understanding, interpreting; relaying, and complying with laws, regulations, and professional practices governing laundry program services and operations.Other Requirements:Physical Requirements: The incumbent will be required to stand for long periods of time and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.Working Conditions:The physical environment may include high temperatures and noise levels due to the use of industrial laundry equipment. The use of bleach and other solvents used to operate the machinery. Hygiene and sanitation are crucial due to the responsibility of washing heavily soiled and contaminated items.
