Reporting to the Chief of Police, the Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing State, County and Municipal laws, rules and regulations for the protection and security of persons and/or property of Tri-County Technical College. The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal communication skills; the ability to problem solve; strong written and oral communication skills; ability to handle crisis situations when needed; and the ability to plan, direct, and coordinate law enforcement activities within the designated area of responsibility. Responsibilities includes but are not limited to:Patrols assigned areas to prevent crime and detect violations of law and college regulations. Seeks to prevent theft and damage to college property. Identifies and reports safety and security hazards. Assists supervisors in effectively managing the Campus Emergency Management Plan.Responds to complaints, reports of violations, and requests for assistance. Investigates incidents, gathers evidence, maintains crime scenes, and pursues by making a reasonable decision, and exhibiting sound judgement corresponding to administrative procedure and / or the legal process.Directs traffic, controls access and movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, investigates traffic accidents, and issues warnings and citations to violators.Keeps accurate and complete reports and records regarding activities and complains pertaining to safety, enforcement of laws and college regulations, or fire hazards. Submits reports to supervisor for approval. Performs and documents monthly fire and safety inspections and initiates work orders for deficiencies. Maintains other records as required.Apprehends and arrests violators and testifies in court and other legal or administrative proceedings.Performs general police and public service functions including but not limited to maintaining order during emergencies, providing first aid, fire prevention, crisis intervention, and community-oriented information/assistance. Performs other administrative services or special assignments. Minimum and Additional Requirements High school diploma and two (2) years of work experience in law enforcement.Must possess a Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification through SLED/SCCJA or be able to transfer a law enforcement certification from another state following SLEC/SCCJA established guidelines within 12 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver's license.
