Role Overview

Lead Counselors are the backbone of our Early Childhood Program. This role is perfect for individuals who have graduated from college, have experience working with young children, and are looking to grow their careers in child-focused areas such as education, child psychology, social work, or related fields.

Responsibilities

As a Lead Counselor, you will:

  • Lead a Group: Take primary responsibility for a group of 3- to 5-year-old campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and enjoyment throughout the day.
  • Foster a Positive Environment: Create a warm, inclusive, and engaging atmosphere where young children feel supported and excited to participate.
  • Mentor Staff: Guide and mentor counselors assigned to your group, fostering a collaborative and supportive team dynamic.
  • Uphold Camp Values: Promote kindness, respect, and teamwork, in line with Elmwood's mission to nurture social and emotional growth.

Qualifications

  • College grad with a desire to work in education, psychology, or a related field (this is preferred but not required).
  • Prior experience working with young children (camp, school, daycare, or similar setting).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with young children.

Camp Dates

The position runs from late June through August. Candidates must be available for the full summer season, including staff orientation prior to the start of camp.
