Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Lead Teacher for our Three-year-Old Journey Department.The Lead Teacher will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.Three Year Old Journey is a twelve-week Saturday program that continues parenting skills training derived from Harlem Children's Zone Baby College and Baby College GRADS programs. The primary goal of the Three-Year-Old Journey is to provide parents and guardians with a range of information and the support necessary to ensure that their three-year-olds obtain the cognitive and social-emotional skills needed to enter school. Parents participate in workshops discussing topics such as language, literacy, and teachable moments. Other parenting subjects include discipline, effective communication, managing stress, and more. Meanwhile, the three-year-old participants are placed in small and large groups learning to develop their intellectual and social skills.We are seeking a part-time Lead Pre-Kindergarten Teacher to incorporate direct instruction, discussion, projects and cooperative work that keep classes focused where three-year-old students are engaged and infused with a lasting desire to learn.For more information, check out Want to Work at Harlem Children's Zone?   • Master's Degree
  • Two or more years of early childhood teaching experience
  • New York State Teaching Certification in Birth-Grade 2 or Grades 1-6
Who you are
  • A Master's degree with at least 2 years of early childhood teaching experience is required
  • Teaching experience in an urban school setting is desired
  • New York State Certification in any of the following:
  • Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2)
  • Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten (Grades 1 - 6)
  • Childhood Education (Grades 1 - 6)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work on Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm
What you'll do
  • Develop curriculum and activities
  • Provide classroom structure by developing and clearly enforcing rules and expectations for class discussion and activities
  • Follow the program's policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Form meaningful relationships with families and involve parents in their children's education
  • Respond to parent concerns promptly and effectively
  • Participate effectively and collegially in department meetings and parent meetings
  • Provide a nurturing environment and model positive behavior for students
  • Support other education staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
  • Saturday: 8 AM - 4 PM (Mandatory)
  • A one-day remote planning session is required from 5 PM - 7 PM via Zoom. This planning session can be scheduled any day between Tuesday and Friday, depending on the entire team's availability.
