The Opportunity

Lead the delivery of accurate tax accounting by gathering and analyzing financial information from various sources and the filing of tax returns to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

* Facilitate the preparation of premium tax returns outsourced to third party, including ownership of the document request and payment processes

* Manage use tax filing obligations prepared by staff

* Engage with management across the business on indirect tax considerations

* Engage with auditors and regulators to facilitate premium tax audits and other queries

* Analyze tax issues relating to acquisitions or disposals including structuring and due diligence

* Champion process improvement by evaluating current processes, identifying weaknesses & opportunities and implementing new procedures

* Contribute to successful completion of tax accounting procedures by accurately preparing various tax calculations, assisting in gathering and analyzing financial information from various sources and ensuring tax returns are appropriately filed

* Provide oversight to tax compliance by identifying areas of tax risk exposure and developing risk mitigation strategies

* Recommend continuous improvement of tax processes by developing efficiencies and synthesizing process solutions to ensure implementation of best practices

* Participate and manage the completion of various tax related projects and requirements by sharing knowledge and expertise, providing guidance on tax related matters, building relationships with key stakeholders and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements

* Support team member development by assisting with integration of new associates, sharing knowledge, resolving questions and providing recommendations on best practices within area of responsibility to support the achievement of business objectives

* Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating cultural expectations and influencing others to reward performance and value can do people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun

Required Education

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Required Experience

* 7 years relevant experience

Preferred Competencies/Skills

* Experience preparing or reviewing state premium tax returns for a property and casualty insurer

* Appropriately prioritize assigned tasks to ensure timely goal achievement

* Work with people at different levels within the organization to accomplish a common goal

* Create and maintain current, accurate and readily accessible data in various formats

* Monitor short and long term impact of contributions and ensure accuracy and adherence to long-term goals

* Implement reports to provide access to critical system information

* High degree of financial acumen and awareness of financial responsibility

* Analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems

* Use internal and external resources to gather, analyze and reorganize information

* Influence and collaborate with people at different levels within the organization to accomplish a common goal

* Understand team dynamics and utilize the individual strengths of each member to achieve results

* Complete tasks by taking decisive or quick action

* High attention to detail

Preferred Education

* Master's Degree

Preferred Experience

* Experience in tax department of a property and casualty insurance company or tax practice of a mid-tier or Big 4 accounting firm working with property and casualty insurance companies

* Increasing levels of responsibility

Preferred Licenses/Certifications

* Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred Knowledge

* Applied knowledge of Oracle Fusion ERP, Oracle TRCS and data aggregation tools such as Alteryx and Power BI

* Advanced knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data

* Advanced knowledge state tax regulations and compliance

* Advanced working knowledge of finance principles and general accounting concepts

* Applied knowledge of CORPTAX database

Compensation

Base pay offered will vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location and business needs

Annual Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000

Annual Salary Range: $110,000 - $165,000

CA (Remote, Fresno, Irvine and Woodland), Greenwood Village CO, CT, Chicago IL, MA, MD, NY (Remote), RI, Houston TX and WA

Annual Salary Range: $125,000 - $187,000

San Francisco CA, NJ and New York City NY
