Learn more: jti.com Job Title: Leaf Processing Associate Location: Danville, VA Role: Permanent Leaf Processing Associate What This Position Is About The purpose of the role is to ensure the tobacco leaf is being processed according to JTI requirements within specific areas such as blending, threshing, packing, print room, warehousing, shipping, or receiving. The incumbent will be responsible the machine is operational, assigned team is well trained to perform their responsibilities in a safe way. The ultimate goal is to maximize leaf yield and achieve zero non-conformity products (NCP). Areas of Responsibility
Inspect the processing equipment used in the assigned area of responsibility, ensuring that it is properly maintained. Make timely adjustments during processing to maintain quality standards, and record any adjustments made. Operate the Human Machine Interface (HMI) in the leaf processing facility to set up the machine for processing.
Onboard new employees, introduce them to the workplace and their team. Manage the assigned team responsible for leaf processing to ensure they have the necessary resources for their tasks, receive proper training, adhere to safety requirements, and provide feedback on their performance. Address any performance or behavior issues among subordinates and report to the manager and People & Culture representative as needed.
- Product & Process Quality:
Work in conjunction with Leaf Processing Manager to ensure processing parameters meet JTI technical quality standards and internal leaf processing KPIs (i.e. throughput, downtime, etc.). Follow the check list to make sure the machine is operating to the standards. Report any risk of contamination. Perform any necessary leaf re-feedings in accordance with manual instructions and manager's direction.
Make sure the area of responsibility, including the machine and assigned area, are kept to JTI housekeeping / cleaning guidelines. Keep area organized in accordance with 5S3R standards. Adhere and follow to safety rules, i.e. conduct safety dialogues, safety walk throughs, verify equipment safety guarding, etc.
Calibrate all laboratory equipment. Perform QC (quality control) required testing in alignment with JTI Global manuals. Supervise the team of seasonal employees related to QC activities. Share the testing outsomes with processing team to prevent out-of-tolerance results.
Assist with mechanics and maintenance activities, following established routines. Complete assigned cleaning tasks as directed by the supervisor. Perform necessary facilities and building maintenance work as instructed by the supervisor. Operate a forklift truck to move materials as needed.
Who Are We Looking For - Requirements - High School Graduate Diploma
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably tobacco related) with an additional 1 years experience in leadership role with above average mechanical skills.
- Basic Computer skills to operate HMI, Leaf Point User
- Forklift Certificate / License
- Good communication skills
- Be able to lift weights and move materials
- Well-organized, responsible and reliable
- Understands importance and is willing for follow safety requirements
- Fluent English
