Summary:

As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will work with the payroll team to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the payroll process, supporting business goals by maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including multi-state payroll requirements. You are detail-oriented, analytical, and a proactive problem-solver, responsible for processing payroll, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining data integrity through regular audits.

Your expertise in multi-state payroll, strong communication skills, and technical proficiency make you a key contributor to a cohesive, efficient work environment. Your mission is to drive accuracy, support team development, and contribute to the company's overall success.

This is a hybrid role, with Tuesday-Friday being the set in-office days.

Essential Duties:

Payroll Processing and Compliance:

  • Process weekly and biweekly payroll cycles for all employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to payroll regulations, including managing off-cycle payments, adjustments, and reversals.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity, addressing discrepancies and maintaining compliance with tax withholdings, garnishments, and deductions.
  • Stay up to date with payroll regulations and adjust company policies as needed.
  • Review and address payroll tax notices and rate changes, ensuring accurate reporting.
  • Maintain Wage Attachment files and track updates with each payroll cycle.

System Management and Reporting:

  • Troubleshoot payroll system issues, working with vendor support for resolution, system upgrades, and testing.
  • Generate ad hoc reports from the payroll system as needed.

Specialized Payroll Functions:

  • Manage commissions and special compensation programs to ensure accurate payments in line with company policies.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Act as the primary resource for resolving payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, and department leadership.
  • Partner with the Payroll Director to identify and implement process improvements, ensuring scalable and efficient payroll operations.
  • Support the Payroll Director during audits, preparing documentation and ensuring timely responses to audit requirements.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with year-end activities, such as W-2 filings and annual reconciliations.
  • Adapt to additional tasks as needed for organizational success.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a multi-state environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Dayforce (Ceridian) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal payroll laws, as well as local and state sick leave laws.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.

Salary range: $75,000-80,000/yrIf you are hired at Morgan Properties, your overall compensation package will also be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
