The Department of Fine Arts at Brandeis University seeks an instructor for two courses in the Fall 2024 semester: FA 30A, History of Western Art I: Antiquity to the Middle Ages, 4 credits; and FA 155A, Impressionism: Avant-Garde Rebellion in Context, 4 credits.FA 30A is a survey of the artistic and architectural traditions of the peoples of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages with an emphasis on their cultural context, meaning and stylistic characteristics. FA 155A is a thematic lecture and discussion-oriented course that focuses on French Impressionism in context. Both courses serve Fine Arts majors and minors as well as undergraduate students from across the university.There is some flexibility about the teaching schedule.Candidates who are ABD or have a PhD in Art History or related field with expertise in pre-Modern Western art will be given preference. Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, CV, a draft course syllabus, and names and contact information for two references.
