Job Description :

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University's growing and dynamic Office of University Counsel, offering primary support to the University's intellectual property and research attorneys. The Legal Assistant / Paralegal will provide comprehensive support to in-house attorneys in providing strategic legal advice on a broad range of administrative, litigation and transactional matters to University clients, with a particular focus on research and technology transfer, intellectual property and economic development and innovation. We are looking for someone who has experience providing administrative support in a fast-paced and complex university or legal environment, who is flexible and willing to support the office wherever needed, and who is eager to learn and grow with us as we build out our high level in-house legal team.

Education and Experience

* Associates degree required or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills and Knowledge

* Strong organizational and time management skills is essential.

* Strong computer and research skills is essential, ability to utilize a wide variety of software solutions for office and practice management is preferred.

* Excellent ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines is essential.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing is essential.

* Knowledge of case management techniques, with ability to supervise orderly administration of office files is strongly preferred.

* Knowledge of intellectual property matters including familiarity with patent prosecution. processes, management of technology licensing agreements strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

* Assist the office's transactional attorneys with a broad range of intellectual property, research, technology transfer and other transactional matters, with additional support as needed for the employment and litigation attorneys. This will include creating, editing and proofreading legal documents such as letters, contracts, and pleadings, file management, and research assistance using online databases and legal tools.

* Coordinate with attorneys and administrative staff regarding intake, tracking and management of new and existing legal matters.

* Assist attorneys in calendar management including scheduling meetings, deadlines, and appropriate reminders of upcoming due dates and timelines.

* Assist as needed with office administration including covering the front desk as needed, copying, scanning and emailing of legal documents, ordering supplies, and providing general client and office support.

* Participate in and at times lead complex legal projects; assist in the development and delivery of legal presentations for clients.
