General Description:The purpose of this job is to perform specialized duties in recording, indexing, and maintaining legal documents such as deeds, plats, mortgages, mortgage satisfactions, liens, land contracts, agreements and other documents conveying title to real estate property.Duties and Responsibilities:The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Examines deeds, plats, and mortgages and other legal documents obtained at the counter and through the mail to determine if they are in compliance with the various federal and state codes. Records deeds, plats, and mortgages and other legal documents for public records. Indexes deeds, plats, and mortgages and other legal documents into an automated records management system. Creating backup files of documents used for archive purposes and transfer of information for internet access and assisting the public in person and by phone locating and retrieving official documents through various indexing systems that include alphabetical, and chronological research. Assist the public by telephone, electronically and in the office in the use of records and provision of copies as needed. Cashier transactions and balancing of individual cash drawer and receipts. Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.Requires two (2) years of experience working in real estate or customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Physical Demands:Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): None.Special Certifications and Licenses: None.Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance:Orangeburg County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
