Seasonal Position: $17.00 per hr

NATURE OF WORK

This position performs work under the direction of the South End Program Coordinator or designee. Work includes oversight and management to drop in play space at South End Community Center. Work includes setting up and breaking down of the items in that space and periodically resetting the items for participant use. Let's Play attendants is expected to engage with participants and provide a safe a rewarding experience. Staff must use all equipment safely and ensure participants are also using the items safely. Let's Play attendants may also be utilized in our mobile recreation program that takes recreational supplies and opportunities to a variety of programs, events and locations in the City of Evanston.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specific assignment will include some or all of the following):

* Performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to, setting up and tearing down recreation items. Engaging with participants and ensuring the safe use of equipment.

* Maintain, organizes and cleans the recreational items within the South End Community Center.

* Oversees the use of the drop in play space at the South End Community Center, including maintaining proper use ratios of the space.

* Ensures that the drop in play space is clean and orderly.

* If assigned to the mobile recreation unit inspects assigned park and recreation sites and equipment regularly regarding condition, safety, and degree of use; recommends more complex maintenance and repair if needed.

* If assigned drives a city vehicle to and from sites to transport supplies and materials

* Follows specific set up and breakdown location maps for all events.

* Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

* Completes and submits all required paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion. (i.e.; timesheets, injury reports, and daily work logs).

* Submits work order requests for identified repairs.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

* Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent

* Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

* Knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:

* Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in recreation or sports, safe operation of vehicles and general public clean-up.

* Ability to read, understand, and apply instructions for the safe operation of equipment and available tools

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public

* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

* Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public and employees

* Ability to read, understand, interpret and locate addresses within the City of Evanston boundaries illustrated on a Map

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

* Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such cold, high winds, rain, high temperatures, and humidity.

* Ability to perform heavy manual labor able to lift minimum of 50 lbs. to kneel, bend, stand or sit for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors.

* Ability to work in situations where the following are present: loud noise levels, vibrations, fumes, dust and dirt.

* Ability to climb a ladder.

SUPERVISION

Work is assigned through the Recreation Program Coordinator or designee. Assignments may vary from day to day. Assignments can be either verbal or written, with the employee determining proper procedure and work methods and is responsible for completing the work according to City work rules and safety regulations. Work is reviewed through ongoing observation, written and verbal communication, meetings and feedback from supervisors and other department employees. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Personnel Rules and OSHA. Work is evaluated at least once per season for the safe and skilled operation of equipment, quality of tasks, adherence to work rules, and performance in accordance with classification standard. Team Leaders are responsible for site inspections, ongoing observations, and written and verbal communications.

PUBLIC CONTACT

The employee has regular and frequent contact with division and department employees and other City employees as well as regular contact with community residents and representatives; and members of the public and representatives of other agencies, including elected officials.
