Performs a variety of both technical and routine nursing services. Collaborates with health care team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the nursing care plan. Demonstrates clinical competence.FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Scrubs on general surgical procedures.Prepares operating room by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of surgery.Assures proper functioning of instruments and equipment prior to use and reports needed repairs appropriately.Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Displays cost-consciousness in the opening of sterile supplies and in the care and handling of surgical instruments.Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures and notifies the appropriate people.Makes necessary supply deliveries to unit and ancillary departmentsMaintains a safe and clean room environment; keeps room free from clutter, cleans and stocks rooms, returns equipment and supplies to designated storage locations, helps maintain cleanliness of assigned areas.Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient's care and privacy.Maintains confidentially of patient and department care information.Participates in discussions with the Unit Manager/Supervisor regarding job enrichment and career progression.Completes required education in a timely manner and participates in on-going department specific educational programs.Actively participates in audit monitors and department task forces.Supports administrative and department governance changes to job role and operations.May train/precept new employees in the Surgical Technologist l role within core assignment.Completes required education in a timely manner and participates in on-going department specific educational programs.Assist RN in admitting, transferring and discharging patients from the OR.Assist leadership in adjusting par levels for efficient supply management.Recognizes and participates in continuing education.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Graduate from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing SchoolBasic computer knowledge and keyboarding skillsLPNs that work in home care environments must have reliable daily transportation and will be required to maintain insurance, acceptable driving record according to HFHS Policy 4.09, and meet fingerprinting eligibility standards.Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS' Customer Service Policy: Communication, Ownership, Understanding, Motivation, Sensitivity, Excellence, Teamwork, RespectMust practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-servicesMust possess the outlined personal qualities: Be self-directed, Be flexible and committed to the team concept, Demonstrate teamwork, initiative and willingness to learn, Be open to new learning experiences, Accepts and respects diversity without judgment, Demonstrates customer service valuesCERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical NurseSuccessful completion of HFHS pharmacology exam for the LPNCurrent BLSPREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:For the ambulatory setting, previous ambulatory nursing experience preferredAdditional InformationOrganization: Henry Ford Jackson HospitalDepartment: Digestive Health - East AvenueHenry Ford Health Location: Henry Ford Jackson HospitalShift: Day JobUnion Code: Not ApplicableAdditional DetailsThis posting represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions.
