The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing those functions delegated and assigned by the registered professional nurse. In simple nursing situations, the LPN works with minimal guidance and supervision. In more complex situations, the LPN functions as an assistant to the registered nurse.What You'll Do
  • Evaluate and complete assessment of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during and after surgery, and maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Communicate pertinent information to coworkers.
  • Provide a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury.
  • Investigate and intervene in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to supervisor, and documenting the same.
  • Cleaning and disinfection of equipment,
  • Operating and troubleshooting specialized equipment and patient monitoring equipment
  • Anticipating and assisting with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and medications.
  • Is accountable for administration of drugs (except for IV procedures) and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner.
  • Ensure informed signed consent is completed prior to administration of sedation.
  • Consult with appropriate supervisor or physicians as needed.
  • Seek educational opportunities and accepts responsibility for own professional growth and development.
  • Participate in-service opportunities and staff meetings.
  • Accept direction from supervisor or physicians and adhere to established routines.
  • Maintain patient's rights to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors/family or client.
  • Maintain flexibility and perform other duties as required.
  • Function within the legal limits of nursing practice.
  • Refer situations beyond ability or function to proper person.
  • Report errors of commission/omission.
  • Participate in performance improvement program.
  • Assist in crash cart maintenance and defibrillator checks.
  • Assist in completion of ambulatory surgery center patient logbook.
  • Observe universal precautions.
  • Assist with housekeeping responsibilities as directed by recovery room nurse and/or operating room nurse.
  • Inform the nurse in charge when leaving for break and lunch or for the day.
  • Explain procedures to patients, places patient at ease and offers reassurance as needed.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as directed by the clinical director or physician that are within their legal limitations.
  • Keep all working areas clean, neat and stocked.
  • Clean rooms after each patient and leave ready for the next patient.
  • Prepare patients as requested by physician according to type of procedure.
  • Assist with answering the phone when necessary.
RequirementsWhat You Bring
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Must hold a current license from the state board of nursing to practice as a practical nurse.
  • Must have IV certification.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is mandatory.
  • Experience in an ambulatory surgery environment.
  • Understanding of proper method of handling supplies before, during and after use.
  • Understanding of proper handling of tissue specimens, cultures and smears.
  • Knowledge of safe and correct positioning of patients for various procedures.
  • Familiarity with organization and functions of all policies, regulations and procedures of Practice as they relate to nursing service.
  • Knowledge of literature and new developments in the field, with emphasis on developments relating to the operating room.
  • Willingness to submit to a background check (drug screen for Ambulatory Surgery Centers only)

Physical Requirements: Exerting up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must have close visual acuity to perform an activity including viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, interpretation, etc. Must be able to be stationary for prolonged periods of time. Cognitive Requirements: Executes tasks independently. Learns and memorizes tasks. Maintains concentration/focus on tasks. Performs task in a demanding environment requiring multi-task and prioritize work.
