Job Description :
The LPN provides professional nursing care, including the administration of Methadone, as well as manages under supervision the overall medical needs of patients according to established standards and practices in methadone treatment.*GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assurance Program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.2. Assumes responsibility for all treatments being carried out as ordered.3. Assumes a medical caseload for individual medical counseling and provides medical intervention concerning chemical dependency and how it relates to health problems (emphasizing HIV Related issues).4. Establishes a nursing treatment plan and assessment for each client under supervision of the RN and contributes to said plan.5. Assists the physician/PA with treatments or procedures when indicated.6. Updates and maintains necessary clinic records and/or client charts.7. Utilizes the group process in working with clients and co-lead groups.8. Participates in the interdisciplinary team meeting.9. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, inservice meetings and workshops.10. Administers medication to patients and take home doses under the supervision of a RN.11. Recognizes alterations in the patient's condition and reports findings to the charge person, program team, physician and/or psychiatrist.12. Participate in case conference, staff meetings.13. Utilizes universal precautions following the standard of practice for infection control.14. Effectively manages and responds to patients who exhibit behavior problems or are manipulative on the unit in a professional and therapeutic manner.15. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information as required by law.16. Acts as a role model for staff as a team player with a caring and professional attitude.17. Consistently documents the narcotic count daily.18. Interviews patients at the time of the intake, annual review in order to complete a health history nursing assessment, provides health education, and makes appropriate referrals.19. Prepares and records urine samples for laboratory testing.20. Evaluate and assess patients for alertness, gait, signs and symptoms of drug or alcohol intoxication prior to administering medication.21. Consistently demonstrates knowledge of Federal and NYS regulations pertaining to Methadone treatment.22.
