We are committed to helping the population we serve, and our communities, achieve optimum health and enjoy the best quality of life possible.What You'll DoThe Advanced, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Procedure Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care, under the supervision of the department manager and the clinical direction of the Registered Professional Nurse, Physician, PA, and Nurse Practitioner, provides technical and clinical support to the surgical team in the procedure room. The Advanced LPN functions as part of the interdisciplinary health care team. The Advanced LPN serves as a resource for other team members and is active in the orientation of new staff. The Advanced LPN Procedure Room Nurse acts as support to Leadership by updating supply charges, procedure room records, cross coverage and working on quality assurance projects.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of all surgical/ clinical procedures
- Acts as support to practitioners consistently and accurately. Utilizes knowledge of technical and nursing responsibilities.
- Adheres to universal protocol, monitors practitioners adherence to protocol and maintains accurate documentation of same
- Mixes, labels and handles medications used on the sterile field, under the supervision of the practitioner
- Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures
- Maintains high degree of attentiveness to the sterile field
- Selects all instruments and equipment necessary for procedure and maintains proper function of equipment and instruments
- Accepts responsibility for review and maintenance of adequate stock and the timely ordering of specialty items for use at scheduled cases, including specialty equipment
- Assist practitioners, demonstrating manual dexterity. Retracts, sponges, suctions and cuts sutures, assists in positioning patients. Maintains correct counts and provides and/or applies necessary dressings
- Cleans and readies room for next case efficiently to minimize turnaround time.
- Readies instruments per hospital policy for return to Central service
- Provides direct and indirect nursing care individualized to the patient's needs
- Collects ,records, evaluates relevant patient health data accurately
- Implements and documents specified interventions
- Identifies deviations from expected patient outcomes
- Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards
- Directs and supervises patient care provided by other LPNs and support personnel according to department guidelines
- Performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures
- Functions as resource for other personnel including nurses, students, interns, residents. Encourages Procedure room to be utilized as a learning experience
- Maintains information as assigned by supervisor and/ or manager
- Maintains records and statistical data of all cases performed in the procedure room
- Updates all clinic charge, including updating costs, adding new supplies and assigning the charges for those items within 1 month of initial use of the item
- Records completely and accurately any pertinent Point of Service testing
- Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
- Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor
- Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed
EducationWhat we need from you
- Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program, required
Experience
- Minimum two years experience in relevant area of procedure room practice, required
- Minimum one year employment within the Bassett Healthcare Network, required
Licensure/Certificates
- Current NYS licensure as a Practical Nurse or a valid interim permit, required
- BLS with 6 months of hore, required
- Additional credentials are determined by specific work unit
