The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preventative health and urgent health care needs for students at Northeastern University presenting to University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS). The primary duties include:
- Preparing patients for clinical visits and check in process, point of care testing, scheduling follow-up care for patients.
- Provides patient instruction and education as directed by clinical staff.
- Aids in scheduling follow-up visits for students after clinic visits, hospital or specialist visits.
- Assisting with medication administration in clinic/ vaccinations/therapeutic injections and related duties
- Assisting in facility preparation and maintenance.
The LPN also provides education and support for students regarding self-care and navigation of health systems as as well clinical support and guidance to Medical Assistants.
This is a one year term position and is a full-time, 5 day a week, 35 hours a week position. Hours may include 12-4p on Saturdays and one weekday evening (except for July and August).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational Requirement: LPN in Nursing
- Certification Requirement: Current Basic Life Support
- Licensure requirements: Active Nurse License for practice through the Massachusetts Board of Nursing
- Proficiency with computer systems required including web-based and Microsoft Office applications.
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in ambulatory setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive and punctual approach to work responsibilities.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced student-facing environment is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Massachusetts Immunization Compliance is preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:
- Prepares patients for examination by clinician.
- Obtains and documents pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight and height, as well as other parameters as directed by the clinician, including ECG.
- Obtains and prepares specimens as ordered, completing required order forms and labels.
- Stocks and organizes area equipment, supplies and materials.
- Reports on low stock and inventory irregularities.
- Performs exam/procedure room set-up and turnover between patient visits/procedures including but not limited to cleaning, restocking, etc.
- Provides CLIA waived lab tests.
- Provides timely, thorough and clear documentation as per protocol.
- Provides immunizations, and other procedures as requested by clinician or supervisor, according to approved protocol.
- Provides ear lavage, suture removal, crutch fittings as ordered by clinician
- Assists in patient follow-up.
