DescriptionGREATER LOWELL FAMILY YMCA - JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Title: Lifeguard Department: AquaticsReports to: Aquatics Director/Asst Aquatics Director/Supervisors Status: Part-Time (Non-Exempt) Revision Date: 1/23/2021POSITION SUMMARY:Under direct supervision, ensure a safe, clean and enjoyable aquatic environment for the YMCA members and participants. Ensure the safety of all individuals in or around the pool. Remain alert and enforce all rules while on duty. Recognize emergency situations, rescue individuals in stress, perform emergency care and contact EMS as needed.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:•Ensure the safety of all swimmers and prevent injury by supervising the pool area. Scan the pool every 10 seconds and react immediately to any' signs of distress. •Ensure cleanliness of the pool are by putting away all equipment, and picking up any litter, hair and lost items in the pool area at the end of each shift. •Administer first aid to any victims following OSHA Blood borne pathogens guidelines. Provide immediate care to sustain life until EMS arrives. •Inform supervisor of any equipment needed including first aid supplies, chemical testing supplies and any discrepancies in pool chemistry or clarity.•Perform pool maintenance duties in accordance to OSHA standards. Hose down pool deck, put away equipment and perform water quality testing.•Maintain all necessary certifications, physical requirements and attend all in service training. •Participate as part of the aquatics staff team in providing a safe and enjoyable environment. Respect others by arriving on time and in accordance with schedule. Wear proper attire. Attend staff meetings as required.•Provide excellent service to members and participants. Communicate all pool rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable. •Maintain pool logs, pool updates and incident reports.•Perform other related duties as required. - Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to see and hear individuals in the pool area.
- Ability to use a pool chemistry kit.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform activities, which require sustained concentration and attention
