The City of Mesa is currently recruiting Lifeguards for the Summer Season. The Season runs from April 2025 through August 2025. Lifeguards will work up to 40 hours per week, depending on business needs.As a lifeguard, you will be monitoring activities at a City-operated swimming pool to prevent accidents and to rescue swimmers in danger of drowning. A Lifeguard cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas, and administers first aid. Other duties include: completing reports associated with accidents and incidents, conducting water chemical/clarity checks, facility cleaning duties, removing debris from the pool and adjoining areas, and providing general pool information to patrons. A Lifeguard performs related duties as assigned.Qualified applicants must successfully complete one skills testing. The first skills test will be offered on Saturday, March 15, 2025 and remaining staffing needs will be filled at a second skills test on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Skills testing will include an assessment of various lifeguard skills, fitness level, as well as a verbal interview. In order to attend either skills test, applications must be received online by 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2025, and you must receive an email invitation with details of the skills testing event. Applications received after April 1st will be considered on an as-needed basis. Additional Information:Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification classes are offered by the City of Mesa beginning in February. A skills test review is offered in March. For general registration and class information, call 480-###-#### (PLAY).All staff will be provided black swimsuit/shorts uniform, two lifeguard t-shirts, and a Fox 40 whistle. Visible tattoos with inappropriate lettering or images such as nudity or offensive language must be covered. Visible body piercings must be appropriate and professional.Aquatics Incentive Information: The City of Mesa is offering reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a Lifeguard Certification and/or a Water Safety Instructor Certification (up to $229 each) through the City of Mesa. Minimum Qualifications Required. Valid Lifeguard Certification and a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer Certification by hire date.Substance Abuse Testing. Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures.Preferred/Desirable Qualifications. Some (3 - 6 months) experience in performing the duties of a lifeguard or junior lifeguard at a public pool is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish desirable.
