Reports to: District Nurse and if applicable, Building Principal Qualifications:
- Current CPR, AED and First Aide Certifications
- Proficiency in Micro Soft Suite
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Responsibilities:
- Understands the health aide's role, which does not involve medical assessment, interpretation, or the delivery of education.
- Provide medical services for students; first aide, feeding tubes, catherization, etc.
- Attend district health meetings and attend educational training as deemed necessary by district nurse.
- Record and update health concerns, medication, and emergency information in student information system and student health files. Administer and record dates and times of medications given, following District Medication Administration Policy.
- Provide basic first aid, monitor illness and injury and notify parents of concerns. Consult with District Nurse and principal regarding serious injury or incident and/or contact 911 in emergency situations.
- Apply compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles according to the WISHES protocol.
- Measure and record student vital information such as height, weight, temperature, etc. Notify district nurse of any abnormal information.
- Administer prescribed medications as directed by District Nurse.
- Maintain databases on individual students including daily observation and information about medications administered.
- Maintain emergency information for all staff members.
- Perform clerical duties such as taking inventory, answering telephones, taking messages, and filling out forms.
- Complete screening information and review health information following the guidelines established by the District Nurse as required by the state on all special education students Individual Educations Plans (IEP's) and complete information in the District computer program.
- Provide staff with student health concerns and emergency information as necessary and appropriate; according to FERPA
- Update immunization records and enforce state immunization requirements.
- Organize and complete vision and hearing on students as required by the state. Enter screening data in student health files. Notify district nurse of any abnormal data.
- Assure neatness of health office, equipment, and supplies. Ensure supplies are maintained within expiration date.
- Report school health hazards to District Nurse.
Performance Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated by District Nurse annually. Term of Employment: Nine month.
