Lipid Mass Spectrometrist Senior Scientist (Contract) - Bpc-Jad Group : Job Details

We are seeking a contract Lipid Mass Spectrometrist to join the Chemical Biology group in Vertex Pharmaceuticals as a Research/Senior Research Scientist (experience dependent). This scientist will be establishing and leading the design, validation and implementation of targeted lipid MS assays amenable for small molecule screening and medicinal chemistry support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare samples for lipid analysis from tissues, cells, and fluids via extraction, cleanup etc.
• Generate, optimize, and run LC-MS methods for targeted quantitation of lipids.
• Analyze and report data to different audiences both technical and general.
• Rigorous evaluation of data quality and assay performance.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting of LC-MS instrumentation.
• Collaborate and integrate with other assay teams including compound management, cellular assays and medicinal chemistry.
• Work in a multi-disciplinary matrix environment, collaborating on shared scientific questions, communicating ideas, plans and results.
• Organize, record, and report results according to data integrity guidelines.

Skills:

• Self-driven ability to organize resources and data, manage time and priorities.
• The ability to communicate ideas and updates clearly and concisely across a variety of audience levels.
• Understanding of analytical metrics including figures of merit, QC etc.

Education And Experience:

• PhD degree in life sciences with 0-3 years of experience, or
• Masters degree in life science with 3+ years of experience, or
• Bachelors degree in life science with 6+ years of relevant hands-on experience in mass spectrometry and analytical chemistry.

Additional Experience:

• Experience in preparing samples and analyzing lipids via targeted quantification of lipids by LC-MS.
• Hands-on liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry instrumentation experience.
• Experience with quantitative analysis of mass spectrometry software such as Skyline or Analyst.
• A background in drug discovery screening, biomarker or DMPK quantification.
