BCNY's two well-equipped clubhouses in East Harlem and Flushing and its wilderness camp in Harriman State Park offer activities and programs remarkable in their range. From swimming to robotics and enjoying ice skating in Central Park and a trip to the theatre on Saturdays, BCNY programs and events deepen interests and skills and are free of charge to members and their families. Our dedicated and highly skilled staff and our professional advisory council have made BCNY a leader in youth programming across the field and we invite you join our team as we partner with boys and young men as they journey through their childhoods and our clubhouses.Job Summary Frontline employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.Job RequirementsFrontline employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.Responsibilities Teach literacy-based lessons activities in small-group settings Promote love of learning by delivering engaging academic content Implement classroom management techniques in a way that is conducive to fun and learning Observe and track member progress and attendance Reinforce positive student behavior and clubhouse rules; maintain a positive relationship with all members, families and staff Write, implement and adapt a curriculum and training methods that meets participants' interests Attend required department meetings and professional development trainings Report any problems, member incidents and concerns to Education Director Other duties as assignedQualifications Experience working and/or teaching literacy or early reading in a school or youth program required Minimum Bachelor's Degree with a focus in a relevant field Experience with the Fountas and Pinnell assessment system strongly preferred At least 3 years of experience as literacy instructor, reading specialist or classroom teacher Ability to manage small- and medium-sized classrooms Ability to adapt to a changing environment and to address the varying needs of the boysWhat We Offer
