JOB SUMMARY:
* Serve as a positive representation of the Select Sires, Inc. Mission: To enhance the productivity and profitability of dairy and beef producers, Select Sires is committed to be the premier provider of highly fertile, superior genetics accompanied by effective reproductive and herd management products and services.
* Clean and maintain building, grounds, and equipment.
* Collect semen using established safety protocols.
* Handle bulls in a manner to properly stimulate semen collection.
* Operate company vehicles, trucks, trailers, and farm equipment.
* Perform general livestock care, including feeding, cleaning, moving bulls and steers, health testing, veterinary treatments, and hoof trimming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Livestock Technician l is responsible for performing the daily activities involving the care, feeding and breeding of livestock in a livestock program. Livestock Technicians I assist animals during parturition; effect feed trial and general feeding experiments, operate mechanical milking and other dairy equipment; and may be called upon to maintain or assist in the maintenance of feed trial, weight gain, litter, milk production, breeding, livestock inventory, and other records required in the operation of a livestock program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Strong background in animal husbandry or experience in caring for Animals and working on a farm.
* Experience in construction and repair of farm equipment fences.
* Familiarity of feed mill operations.
* Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Working Conditions
* Occasional travel to pick up supplies and attend meetings/trainings.
* Work done mostly outside and sometimes in a climate-controlled environment.
Physical Requirements
Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, catching animals, heavy lifting (50 and occasionally up to 75 pounds), reaching over the shoulder and repeated bending.
