POSITION SUMMARY: The Lodging Operations Manager oversees housekeeping and front desk within the lodging division, including facilities, functions and staff of Schweitzer Lodging Operations. Facilities include the Selkirk Lodge, White Pine Lodge, The Humbird, and contracted condominiums included in the Schweitzer rental program. Departments of oversight include the Front Desk and Housekeeping. This position works closely with the Lodging Maintenance Department to coordinate repairs and maintenance for Lodging Properties. The position works closely with the Director of Lodging to support the owners of Schweitzer Lodging through accounting and property management functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages the operation of efficient and economically sound deluxe rental accommodations on the mountain. This includes front desk, laundry, housekeeping, and condo management. Responsible for designing an annual operating budget for all reporting departments and effectively manage operating labor and expenses for all areas of responsibility. Work closely with the Facility and Grounds Maintenance department and Lodging Maintenance to coordinate repairs and maintenance for Lodging properties. Supports the Director of Lodging with owner services functions acting as a liaison between Schweitzer's Property Management division and the owners whose condominiums we manage. The Lodging Operations Manager is responsible to represent the best interests of Schweitzer Mountain Resort at all times. The Lodging division is expected and required to uphold excellent customer service standards at all times. The Lodging Operations Manager is personally responsible to inspire others to exceed expectations and grow in their respective roles and beyond. Will contribute to the overall vision, direction and implementation of the Lodging Department by performing the following:
- Aligning Lodging Department team members & services with company goals, financial success and development.
- Possess the ability to work without direct supervision.
- Provide leadership and daily oversight of services, products and team members.
- Reports to the Director of Lodging and works with other departments as needed.
- Understand and implement products and services to promote the Lodging Division.
- Support Front Office Manager and Housekeeping Manager in successful operation of their departments.
- Assists managers in building acceptable budgets for each function of the Lodging Division.
- Be financially accountable for all functions including adjusting labor/expenses according to business levels to match projected revenues, profit margins, etc.
- In all areas of operation, conduct business with the highest levels of integrity, guest service and safety.
- Supports Director of Lodging in Owner Services Functions:
- Serves as point of contact for owners of Schweitzer Lodging
- Helps with owner communication including unit issues, monthly billing, and quarterly newsletters.
- Helps manage owner bookings and cancellations.
- Supports in the processing of accurate and timely month end and year end statements for owners and Schweitzer's accounting team.
- Inspects units semi-annually to ensure compliance to Schweitzer standards and offers recommendations and coordinates enhancements.
- Helps coordinate repairs with the assistance of the Lodging Maintenance Team.
- Actively promotes Schweitzer Property Management for new contracts.
- Provides strategic planning to increase revenue from both rentals and owner services and maintenance functions.
- Help build Schweitzer Lodging into the Property Management company of choice.
- Be responsible for overall service experience, inspire a service culture to deliver a quality experience.
- Hiring, training, and development of team members
- Communicate, implement, and enforce clear and consistent standards and guidelines for all aspects of service.
- Monitors performance - provides feedback and coaching.
- Directly, or indirectly responsible for all inventory purchases, costs and profitability of the outlet.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Should have extensive knowledge of Schweitzer Mountain facilities and activities. Responsibilities are listed as guidelines and the position is not necessarily limited to these items.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Combined standing/walking position for up to 6 hours. May sit when completing paperwork and doing routine phone and office work. Will occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Will bend, squat, kneel, climb, twist, and reach above shoulder level occasionally; uses hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation; sensory skills needed are vision, hearing, touch, smell. Exposed to housekeeping cleaning supplies.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SKILLS: Strong and effective interpersonal skills along with a strong work ethic, Ability to inspire, prioritize and delegate. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the lodging department. Excellent communication skills both oral and written; computer skills with Microsoft Office required; excellent guest service skills; detailed, accurate, and organized.

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in hotel management preferred. Working knowledge of accounting functions. English reading, writing, and communication are required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years' experience in hotel management with at least one-year experience in a leadership role. Familiarity with ski area and resort management and experience with owner relations and revenue management preferred.
MACHINES, PROGRAMS AND TOOLS OPERATED: SMS Host, Onity, Computers, and Microsoft Office, Automobile (rarely).
LICENSE NEEDED: Valid drivers license insurable by Schweitzer and clean driving record is required to drive company vehicles. This position is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background check .
