The Opportunity:

The Logistics & Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end management of logistics operations and distribution activities. This role ensures cost-effective, safe, and timely transportation and warehousing operations, as well as the efficient distribution of goods to meet customer demand and business objectives.

Logistics Responsibilities

• Freight & Warehousing Cost Management
• Manage and optimize freight and warehousing costs, with the goal of achieving at least a 5% cost reduction annually.
• Conduct regular freight market analysis and index monitoring to ensure cost efficiency.
• Lead freight RFQs and utilize business intelligence tools for effective cost benchmarking.
• Review and approve warehouse invoices and freight billing to ensure accuracy and avoid service disruptions.
• Foster relationships with key carriers and manage service-level agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and service quality.
• Compliance & International Regulations
• Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations (e.g., GHS, Dangerous Goods Regulations) for both domestic and international operations.
• Manage the logistics of chemicals and other goods under stringent global regulatory standards, particularly in markets such as Europe and Asia.
• Oversee the development and implementation of proper packaging and shipping documentation for all shipments, especially international.
• Technology Implementation & Innovation
• Lead the implementation of key logistics technologies, including TMS (Transportation Management System), WMS (Warehouse Management System), and mobile barcoding technologies to streamline warehouse operations.
• Collaborate with the IT team and external vendors to ensure smooth technology rollouts and address operational challenges.
• Freight Quoting & Carrier Scheduling
• Manage day-to-day freight quoting for all modes of transportation.
• Monitor the performance of freight carriers and schedule shipments in accordance with business needs and customer requirements.

Distribution Responsibilities

• Inbound & Outbound Shipments
• Oversee all aspects of inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring they are handled safely, compliantly, and on time.
• Manage relationships with distribution centers and ensure adherence to company SOPs.
• Inventory Management
• Ensure accurate inventory levels across all warehouses through the support and management of a cycle count program.
• Collaborate with warehousing teams to maintain proper stock levels, minimizing discrepancies and optimizing space usage.
• Partner Relationships
• Develop and maintain relationships with distribution partners to ensure smooth flow of goods, both domestically and internationally.
• Audit domestic and international distribution centers to ensure compliance with company standards and performance metrics.
• Lean Management & Process Improvement
• Champion a LEAN culture within the distribution department, continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
• Lead monthly analysis and presentation of distribution metrics, with a focus on increasing productivity and reducing costs.
• Utilize the Total Quality Enhancement (TQE) to assist in improving Service Fulfillment Process.
• Work closely with operations team to pursue 98% service fulfillment

Leadership Responsibilities

• Manage and coach warehouse team members.
• Oversee team hiring needs and performance management as needed.
• Conduct personnel performance reviews of direct reports annually.
• Assure that near miss reporting, toolbox talks, and safety checklists are being executed properly to improve safety metrics.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in logistics and distribution management.
• Proven experience with cost reduction strategies and freight market analysis.
• Experience in implementing logistics technologies such as TMS, WMS, and mobile barcoding systems.
• Strong understanding of safety and compliance regulations for shipping and handling of goods, specifically dangerous goods/HAZMAT goods.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Experience utilizing an ERP system (such as SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle)
• Experience negotiating trade agreements with logistical vendors.
• Microsoft Office
• Experience reviewing, negotiating and approving Spot Quotes.

Preferred Experience

• Experience within a Chemical Manufacturing Setting
• International shipping, such as air freight or ocean freight
• Bulk shipping experience
