Job Type Full-timeDescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. In addition, this position is shared between the Watertown and Lowville Health Center, and travel is required. The LPN position provides the foundation on which we build efficient, professional health centers. Under direction of the RN/Provider, supports providers in provision of patient care; includes education related to family planning, reproductive health, abortion, colposcopy, LEEP, and sexually transmitted infections for males and females, recording vital signs, discussing chief health concerns, performing testing, and administering injections; assists with procedures and documentation. The position must exemplify the commitment to PPNCNY's core values of teamwork, compassion, confidentiality, quality of care, and mission of the organization.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Welcomes and greets patients/clients/visitors to the health center in a positive manner that is helpful and friendly.
  • Conduct patient interviews.
  • Work in conjunction with the providers to anticipate, identify, and satisfy patient needs.
  • Perform basic lab duties to include collecting blood and urine specimens, pregnancy testing, urine dips, and hemoglobin's while using aseptic technique and universal precautions.
  • Prepares lab specimens for transport.
  • Documents all actions appropriately.
  • Provide education and counseling for birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, pregnancy results and options, Transgender care and abortion.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions including medication administration, including injections as ordered and documents in the medical record according to PPNCNY, PPFA, DOH, NAF standards and guidelines.
  • Assists providers during exams or procedures.
  • Ensure ample inventory of supplies in exam rooms.
  • Set up, maintain and clean rooms in a manner that is organized and neat.
  • Monitors and directs patient flow as needed to maximize productivity.
  • Completes inventory on a monthly basis and requests for supplies to be ordered as needed.
  • Monitors emergency equipment on a monthly basis.
  • Demonstrates compliance with infection control standards.
  • Performs quality control monitoring.
  • Provides information to callers according to the health centers policies and procedures; transfers calls as needed.
  • Schedules patients according to Policies and Procedures to allow the health center to serve an adequate number of patients as established by Management.
  • Adheres to all health center policies on safety and security; maintains restricted areas by safeguarding keyless entry and computer system passwords in strict confidentiality.
  • Must exercise utmost professionalism to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to health center policies and HIPAA requirements.
  • Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refers patient complaints to appropriate designated personnel as needed.
  • Attends scheduled health center staff meetings and all staff day meetings.
  • Participate in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve revenue cycle goals.
  • Performs macroscopic exam of tissue post-abortion as well as the recording, reporting, referring, follow-up and transportation of specimens as needed.
  • RequirementsREQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
  • Able to effectively relate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of health center patients/clients/visitors in a manner that is efficient and productive.
  • Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the department.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Proven flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Basic to intermediate computer knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to travel to other centers as needed.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Assists in training new employees.
  • Acceptance and understanding of PPNCNY's Personnel Policies.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
  • Family planning/GYN experience preferred.
  • Current certification in CPR/BLS.
