Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.Responsibilities:The LPN, Proficient, Inpatient, under the direction of the Nurse Manager or designee and the co-assigned Registered Nurse, is accountable for provision of direct care to assigned patients. The LPN, Proficient, Inpatient contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system. The LPN, Proficient, Inpatient works as a team member and assists other staff members with implementing patient care.Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: Performs inpatient phlebotomy services in accordance with all phlebotomy protocols/procedures including review/verification of provider order, patient identification, selection of blood collection tubes/equipment, proper and safe phlebotomy techniques, and accurate labeling of specimens. Utilizes child life/nursing support when drawing from a pediatric patient. Assists with difficult IV insertions and provides coaching to staff members. Supports a safe environment through use of appropriate blood specimen equipment and use of safety measures to reduce risk of sharps injuries, sticks, and splashes. Provides phlebotomy services to designated inpatient units across medical center and demonstrates clinical judgment, problem-solving and customer services skills including compassion and empathy with patients. SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED: None MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment, including desktop and/or laptop computers and zebra printers. Use of Hospital and Laboratory information systems and other software as needed. Phlebotomy/IV equipment including needles and vacutainers, beds, bedside tables, and nurse call system. TYPICAL DUTIES: - Specimen Collection (70%). Follows patient identification and order verification procedures prior to collection of the specimen. Performs safe venipuncture, heel or finger sticks following all age specific and procedural protocols as well as infection control and safety protocols. Labels all specimens according to procedures. - IV insertions (20%). Assists unit staff with difficult IV insertion following all policies and procedures. Provides coaching to staff members. Supports the IV coach program in house to ensure inpatient nurses develop and maintain good IV insertion skills. - Administrative support (5%). Answers phone and customer inquiries, providing routine as well as technical information. Takes initiative to resolve all customer needs. Participates in all Quality Assurance monitors and initiatives, including data collection and statistics. Greets and pleasantly interacts with patients. Reconciles issues with patient specimens. Incorporates ICARE values into all interactions; including other health team members - Operational Support (5%). Maintains supplies. Places orders following PAR level guidelines, receives and rotates stock according to expiration date. Maintains cleanliness and neatness of work area/ site. Monitors and maintains equipment, including daily temperature documentation, disinfection, sharps management, and performance of maintenance and inspections. Troubleshoots issues. - May be reassigned as needed and without prior notice to work at varied locations. Must be flexible and able to work independently. Requires scheduling and flexibility and some on call responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: LPN Degree from an accredited LPN Program. Active NY LPN license.
