Among these duties are observing and documenting client behavior, acting as a role model for clients, interacting with clients, providing the client assistance with activities of daily living, insuring client safety, reinforcing treatment plans and Moody Neurorehabilitation Institute (Moody Neuro) policies, assisting therapy staff with modules, and maintaining various checklists, contracts, and daily log sheets. The Therapeutic Assistant will uphold the mission, philosophy, and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and client data and information in the performance of assigned duties.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Observe, monitor, intervene, document, and report client's social and interpersonal behavior and functional ability to perform as an independent individual in the community setting.
  • To carry out therapeutic activities as designed by the clinical staff and/or the Case Manager.
  • Implement behavior management programs including the levels system.
  • Assist in emergency situations including the implementation of fire alarm and fire drill procedures and the provision of first aid treatment in case of illness or injury.
  • Monitor client self-administration of medications and document on medication sheet.
  • Transport clients to and from appointments, work, field trips, recreation activities, etc.
  • Provide transportation, observation, and documentation of responses on ADL outings such as shopping trips.
  • Assist therapies upon request.
  • Serve as a role model at all times maintaining professional dress and conduct.
  • Implement emergency evacuation procedures, i.e. fire drills, etc.
  • Monitor and assist in residential ADL activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records including seizure reports, ADL check sheets, medication sheets, shift change reports, critical incident reports, client charts, etc.
  • Attend in-services, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Provide safe and secure environment for client.
  • Discharge duties in accordance with Moody Neuro organizational policy, CARF and other accrediting bodies.
  • Other duties as assigned
Organizational Functions:
  • Maintain security of building and grounds as assigned on a 24 hour basis.
  • Maintain appropriate reports and logs, i.e. fire drills and fire alarms.
  • Maintain appropriate records of work schedule on sign-in/out sheets.
QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • The ability to work well with other people.
  • Able to stimulate and motivate persons served with problems in motivation.
  • Knowledge of social customs and responsibilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, innovation, and good judgment.
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions accurately.
  • Knowledge of philosophical and ethical considerations in rehabilitation practice.
  • Hold current CPR and first aid certifications.
  • Ability to communicate accurate and pertinent information through documentations.
  • Ability to execute emergency procedures.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to assist patients with transfer in a wheelchair.
  • Certified in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)
  • Current/valid Driver's license.
Education:
  • High-School Diploma or equivalent. College background helpful; Behavioral Science B.A. preferred. Psychology courses helpful.
Experience:
  • Prefer at least two years' experience in Residential Behavioral Rehabilitation Program, or one-two years' experience with disabled population, dealing with cognitive problem or 30- 60 hours of college will be substituted for experience.

    • Field of vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while the eyes are fixed on a given point.
    • Accommodation - adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from the eye.
    • Color vision - the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
