General Purpose of Job:
To educate individuals in the areas of exercise science and nutrition in order to motivate them towards a healthier lifestyle.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
* Schedule personal training sessions with clients.
* Perform health history, posture and gait analysis.
* Design safe and effective exercise programs (Cardiovascular, exercise, strength training, flexibility, and basic nutrition.)
* Perform client documentation and provide appropriate follow-up communications to clients.
* Administrative work involves, but is not limited to: program design, scheduling clients, making copies and performing client billing.
* Provide exceptional customer service that upholds the standards set forth by the Sparrow Michigan Athletic Club and Sparrow Health System.
* Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve.
* Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures.
* Follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
* Maintains and protects patients' rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards.
* Adheres to ICARE values (Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
Job Requirements
General Requirements Current national certification in Personal Training such as: NATA, ACE, ISSA, and NSCA or equivalent. Current CPR certification. Work Experience 2-5 years experience as personal trainer preferred Education High school diploma, GED or successful completion of 12 grades combined with continued enrollment in early college program. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must demonstrate a customer service focus and work well with others. Demonstrate good self care by practicing the habits that they advocate (fitness, nutrition, balance, etc.) Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Wellness Coaches work with clients who are seeking self-directed, lasting changes aligned with their values, which promote health and wellness.
* Meeting with clients in person individually or in group settings to discuss and set achievable short- and long-term goals in their fitness and health journey.
* Providing safe, supportive environment to explore clients' goals and intentions
* Helping clients understand their motivations and create behavior change to successfully achieve fitness and health goals.
* Supporting clients in developing sustainable meal, exercise, or other wellness plans tailored to their goals
* Encouraging mindfulness in all aspects of their clients' lives

Required Education:
* A bachelor's degree in health and wellness field or recognized health and wellness coaching certification from an accredited organization such as:
* The American Sports and Fitness Association,
* National Academy of Sports Medicine,
* Institute of Integrative Nutrition, or
* Any National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches approved certification program.
* A min. of 100 coaching hours or 1 year coaching experience.
