This is a part-time, 25 hour per week, position. SCOPE OF WORK: Responsible for the operation, functioning, and day-to-day organization of the Precision Manufacturing Lab. Performs mechanical and technical duties associated with the set-up, breakdown, and maintenance of lab equipment related to course instruction and assists faculty with lab and classroom instruction. This position reports to the Precision Manufacturing Program Coordinator at Nashua Community College. ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assists in the training and effective use and operation of precision manufacturing equipment by students and faculty in the lab.
- Assists in the conversion of current student projects into competency-based projects; conducts the evaluation and assessment (i.e., grading ) of student projects; provides regular assessments to faculty following competency demonstrations or practices.
- Collaborates with faculty to support student progress through the curriculum; conducts student project evaluations and assessments with minimal guidance from the program instructors; provides regular assessments to faculty following competency demonstrations or practices.
- Assists the faculty in the use of online training and simulation applications that can be utilized and integrated throughout competency-based curriculum.
- Supports and assists students in learning activities with the lab equipment; monitors training scenarios to adjust parameters and responses as needed for students while in the lab.
- Assists instructors in the preparation and implementation of learning activities in the lab by setting up available training resources, such as programmable simulators, online courses, and videos for student use.
- Tests, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment and assists with setup and breakdown of class and lab demonstrations and training activities.
- Provides technical lab assistance to students and faculty and monitors the use of all machining and simulation equipment in the lab; troubleshoots technical issues and identifies equipment needs to the Project Coordinator as necessary.
- Explains and practices lab safety rules and procedures; maintains a clean and operational facility to provide for an optimal learning environment.
- Assists as needed with software and hardware installation and upgrades; maintains functionality directed by manufacturer support and participates in appropriate technical training of equipment when necessary.
- Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, Engineering, Machine Technology or related discipline. Experience: Two years' of practical/technical experience in precision manufacturing operations or closely related field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree preferred; additional years of work experience in the field of precision manufacturing and/or lab operations is desired. Licensure/Certifications: Valid driver's license or access to transportation for statewide travel. RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of the procedures and practices of laboratory technology in the field of machining and/or manufacturing. Considerable knowledge of the use of laboratory equipment (specifically CNC machine tools) and skill in the application of techniques utilized in conducting analyses using complicated machining equipment. Ability to follow standard laboratory methods and procedures regarding machining methods and procedures. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain exact records of tests conducted. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
