Role Purpose
The Machining Process Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining machining processes used in solar energy component production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, process engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot machining processes used in the fabrication of solar energy components, including CNC machining, milling, turning, and grinding operations.
* Design and implement machining fixtures, tooling, and cutting parameters to maximize productivity, efficiency, and quality while minimizing scrap and rework.
* Conduct process capability studies, root cause analyses, and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEAs) to identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization.
* Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production teams to support new product introductions, design changes, and process validations.
* Perform feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed process improvements, equipment upgrades, and technology investments.
* Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation to ensure consistency, repeatability, and traceability of machining processes.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machining processes, reduce cycle times, improve tool life, and increase overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
* Provide technical support and training to production personnel, machinists, and operators to ensure proper implementation and execution of machining processes.
* Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and external partners to evaluate new technologies, materials, and equipment for potential integration into manufacturing processes.
* Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements applicable to machining operations, maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
Work Hours
* Standard Hours (Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm)
* Managing a 24/7 plant structure, so occasional support when needed.
Experiences/Education - Required
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field
* Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
* Strong project management skills
Experiences/Education - Desired
* Strong technical expertise in machining principles, CNC programming, tooling selection, and cutting parameters.
* Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Mastercam) for toolpath generation and simulation.
* Experience with process optimization techniques, such as statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), and lean manufacturing methodologies.
* Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and regulatory requirements applicable to machining operations.

The range for this position is $66,664.00 - $91,663.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
