Machinist II (2nd Shift) - General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems : Job Details

OverviewInstalls, modif ies, moves, troubleshoots, repairs and dismantles machinery and equipment according to requisition documentation, layout plans, blueprints or other drawings | Prepares installation site by constructing foundations and aligns and fastens machinery to the foundation using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, tools, squares, rules and micrometers | Performs operational tests on newly installed, modif ied, repaired and moved machinery and equipment to ensure that it meets technical specif ications | Fabricates metal parts for prototype equipment based on drawings | Programs PLCs (programmable logic controllers)Major Position Responsibilities• Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments.• Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.• Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.• Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.Basic Qualifications• Performs manual tasks according to established procedures• Requires basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process• Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines• Works with close supervisionVocational/Technical Training Degree and 2-4 years experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or ExperienceThe above statements describe the general nature and level of work only.
